Police are investigating a burglary at a hair salon in Maspeth, where thousands of dollars in cash and merchandise were stolen.

Authorities say that at approximately 12:25 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 23, a man broke the glass of the front door of The Hair Studio NYC, located on 60-78 Flushing Ave. in Maspeth. Once inside, the man snatched $2,500 in cash, as well as jewelry and hair products, before fleeing the scene.

Stephanie Rose, who owns the business with her mother, said the incident was unexpected.

“Maspeth is a quiet neighborhood, and everyone looks out for each other,” Rose said.

The pair have owned the salon for four years and have three employees who Rose described as “family to us.”

Rose said that while they have insurance, some things will not be so easily replaced.

“Everything that this man stole from us can be replaced, but our sense of safety cannot,” Rose said.

The business owner also mentioned that the burglary would force them to take greater safety measures.

“We will definitely get more cameras and possibly an alarm system. We just pray this isn’t an ongoing occurrence,” Rose said.

The 104th Precinct has experienced a 30% increase in reported major crimes this year, according to recent crime stats released by the NYPD. Property crimes were posing the biggest problem in the community, driven by an 83% rise in robberies and a 15% rise in burglaries.

The latest data released by the NYPD revealed that the number of burglaries has continued to rise, with a 24.5% increase in burglaries this year.

“Me and my mother both hope that the 104 finds this man who stole from us,” Rose said.
