A man was robbed at gunpoint in the Hammels section of Rockaway Beach late last month.

Authorities say that the 22-year-old victim arranged to meet a man at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, July 29, in front of 260 Beach 81st St., to sell pieces of jewelry from his online business. The suspect asked to look at the jewelry and then pulled out a handgun and demanded the victim’s property.

The suspect took two chains, four watches, two iPhones, and the victim’s wallet containing credit cards, and he drove off in the victim’s 2021 Nissan, which was later recovered, police said. Officers from the 100th Precinct in Rockaway Beach reported no injuries as a result of the robbery and said the value of the stolen property amounted to approximately $24,000.

The NYPD released surveillance video of the suspect on Wednesday, Aug. 10, and described him as a man in his early 20s with a dark complexion, thin build, with black hair in a short ponytail.

He was last seen wearing a black T-shirt over a white T-shirt, black jeans, white Nike Jordan sneakers, and a yellow chain around his neck.

Anyone with information is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS.
