Juniper Valley Park in Middle Village hosted its annual end-of-summer festival on Saturday, Aug. 20, in which participants were able to enjoy bounce houses, water slides, games, food and much more.
The event was put together by Councilman Robert Holden with the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation. Holden said that the return of such events is welcomed after the pandemic.
“My staff and I have enjoyed sponsoring so many outdoor family events this summer, especially after what we’ve been through with the pandemic,” Holden said. “We’ve had Rolling Stones, Beatles, Disney and ’80s cover band concerts, movies under the stars and more. This end-of-summer festival was a great way to cap off the season. And now we are planning our fall events and can’t wait to see our neighbors at those, too!”
Holden also sponsored a rain barrel giveaway in the park earlier that morning. The giveaway was in association with the NYC Department of Environmental Protection.
Rain barrels capture water from a roof and hold it for later use such as on lawns, gardens or indoor plants. Collecting roof runoff in rain barrels reduces the amount of water that flows from your property. It’s a great way to conserve water and it’s free water for use in your landscape.
