Police officer injured while chasing man who dropped handgun near Queensbridge Houses: NYPD

A police officer was injured while chasing for a gunman who eluded them during a chase at the Queensbridge North Houses in Long Island City early Monday morning, according to the NYPD.

Officers from the 114th Precinct observed the suspect as he rode a scooter on the sidewalk in front of 40-35 21st St. at 1:30 a.m. on Aug. 22. When the officers approached him and demanded to see his identification, the suspect fled on foot, leaving the scooter behind while dropping a black 9MM Ruger handgun, police said.

One of the officers sustained an injury to his left knee during the chase and was transported to an area hospital in stable condition, according to authorities.

The NYPD on Aug. 25 released surveillance images of the suspect, who police say is in his 30s and has a dark skin complexion, with black hair, a mustache and a beard. He was last seen wearing a dark-colored T-shirt and a black facemask.
