The Queens Borough President’s office is set to host its inaugural Queens Wellness Day on Saturday, Sept. 24, in Flushing.

The event will consist of two sessions. The morning session will begin at 10:30 at Royal Queen Restaurant, located at 136-20 Roosevelt Ave., and will be followed by a second session at noon at James A. Bland Playground.

“What these last two years have taught us, more than anything, is that we cannot take our health for granted — not just our physical health, but our mental well-being as well,” said Queens Borough President Donovan Richards.

Complimentary dim sum will be served by Royal Queen Restaurant from 9:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. ahead of the morning session. At 10:30 a.m., author and wellness advocate Deepak Chopra will host a meditation session, followed by an inner healing session by holistic health expert Queen Afua.

“When the body is more alkaline than acidic, it can maintain inner peace and clarity of mind, even in the most stressful situations,” said Queen Afua.

Tickets are sold out for the morning session, but empty seats will be given to to those on standby after 10:20 a.m., according to the borough president’s office.

EmblemHealth will sponsor the afternoon session from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.  at James A. Bland Playground, located at 40th Road between Prince and Main streets. The session will include fitness classes from Planet Fitness representatives, a self-care pavilion, food and a community-led panel to discuss Black male mental health.

“We’ve had a dual pandemic, as we’ve also seen gun violence on the rise. It’s clearly time to meet the mental, physical and emotional wellness needs of Black men, which have gone unaddressed for decades.” said LIFE Camp, Inc. Chief Wellness Officer Kheperah Kearse.

There will also be live entertainment courtesy of hip-hop artist Doug E. Fresh. Registration is not necessary for this part of the event.
