The Flushing BID on Oct. 14 hosted its sixth annual gala, “Let’s Get Connected,” at the Sheraton LaGuardia East Hotel celebrating the connection between businesses and residents in the community, and adapting to the changing economy following the COVID-19 pandemic.
During the pandemic, the BID identified critical factors required to adapt and rebuild the local economy in a changing business environment such as the importance of an online presence and a diversified and consumer base for local businesses.
With the proceeds of this year’s gala, the Flushing BID will help to develop websites, provide initial web maintenance and continued social media promotion at no cost to the businesses. The BID continues to support the economic recovery of small businesses in the district including through cooperating with NYC & Company to promote downtown Flushing as the must-visit place in NYC for all tourists to experience the unique culture of Flushing.
This year, the BID recognized four small businesses that represent the heart and spirit of downtown Flushing. The New Small Business Award was presented to Fish With You; and the Small Business Community Service Awards were presented to Wei Wei & Co LLP, KM Pharmacy and Taipei Fine Wine & Liquor Inc.
The BID continues to partner with elected officials, city agencies, community-based organizations, and the 109th Precinct to address challenging issues in the community including illegal vendors, storefront extension and illegal dumping on Main Street.
Councilwoman Sandra Ung and Senator John Liu issued remarks at the event.
“I’ve been so blessed this last year to be partnering with the BID for so many events to help this community. I do recognize that this community has many challenges, which I do look forward to partnering with the BID to make sure that Flushing remains what it’s always been: a destination for the world and its neighbors. I look forward to celebrating another Flushing holiday season with all of you,” Ung said.
Liu congratulated members of the BID saying he looks forward to continuing working with the organization and representing them in state government.
The BID’s goal is to have a clean and safe community for all. This year’s gala was made possible by the support of 26 sponsors, Flushing BID Board directors, and community partners for their dedication, leadership and encouragement.
