Flushing Councilwoman Sandra Ung, along with representatives from various local organizations that provide summer opportunities for area youth, announced her second annual Summer Camp Fair that will be held at the Flushing Library on Sunday, April 16.

The summer camp fair will take place from 1 to 4 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

“We all know about the very popular Summer Rising, but with limited space in the program, parents need other options for their children while school is out of session,” Ung said. “Thankfully, we have a number of great programs in our district for children over the summer break, which is a great thing. But it also means there are a lot of different options for parents to consider before they choose, which can be a daunting and time-consuming task.”

Ung’s Summer Camp Fair brings a number of different programs to one location so parents can explore their options and choose the program that best suits their needs.

This year’s Summer Camp Fair will allow parents to speak directly with representatives from the Chinese American Parents Association, Boys’ Club of New York, KidzConnect, Immanuel Genius, Chinese-American Planning Council, YMCA and Asian American Coalition for Education

“Every child should have the opportunity to take part in a high-quality summer camp where they can learn, grow and make lifelong friends and memories,” said Tiffany Dunbar, executive director of the Flushing YMCA. “That’s why we’re proud to participate in this Summer Camp Fair, and why we’re so grateful to Council member Ung for creating an opportunity for all neighborhood families to learn more about the countless camp opportunities at the Y and other organizations.”

Rachel Park, director of Immanuel Genius Education Center, said summer is not just an end of the school year, but a new beginning for the upcoming school year.

“Get ready for a whole summer packed with excitement, discovery, and adventure, because Immanuel Genius and other organizations in our community with Council member Ung are ready for this summer,” Park said. “We’re tirelessly working to provide high-quality education in a safe and nurturing environment, so that children can play, explore and to learn to their fullest potential.”

Information will be provided on topics like hours of operations, enrollment requirements and costs and the types of activities offered.

Attendees will also learn about various opportunities available through the Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP). The deadline to apply for SYEP was extended to Friday, April 14. Learn more at nyc.gov/syep.
