Assembly Member Ron Kim hosted his second annual Thanksgiving “Turkimchi” Giveaway, a holiday tradition that combines two favorites from two cultures—turkey and kimchi—into one festive celebration.
The event, held on Tuesday, Nov. 26, provided free turkeys and authentic kimchi to local residents, many of whom face financial challenges as costs continue to rise.
Kim, who first introduced the “Turkimchi” Giveaway last year, was joined by volunteers and local residents at the event, which took place at Flushing Town Hall. The turkey and kimchi donations, along with the venue space, were made possible through the generous support of the Korean Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation, Daesang America, the Committee of Asian, the Chinese American Real Estate Association, and Flushing Town Hall.
“I am pleased to once again welcome everyone to our second annual ‘Turkimchi’ Day,” Kim said. “This joining together of two different cultures, both dear to me, was an unexpected hit in our community last year, and we are happy that many of the same sponsors wanted to continue this new tradition. I want to thank all of them for their support and wish all New Yorkers a Happy Thanksgiving.”
“We are delighted to celebrate this Thanksgiving season,” said Mi Jung Yoon, President of the Korean Agro-Trade Center of New York. “Together with Assemblyman Ron Kim and Daesang America, we are distributing kimchi as a small token of our gratitude. We hope this gesture brings warmth and joy to your holiday celebrations.”
Jung Joon Park, Vice President of Daesang America, also voiced his gratitude, adding, “We are truly honored to support the community alongside Assemblyman Ron Kim during Thanksgiving week. Wishing everyone a happy and bountiful Thanksgiving!”
The “Turkimchi” Giveaway not only provided food to those in need but also fostered a sense of community and togetherness as the holiday season approaches. The inclusion of kimchi, a traditional Korean side dish made from fermented vegetables, added a unique cultural touch to the Thanksgiving holiday, reflecting the diversity of the local community.
