Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens recently concluded its week-long Thanksgiving Turkey Distribution, providing much-needed holiday meals to families across Brooklyn and Queens.
Between Nov. 18 and Nov. 25, the organization distributed more than 4,100 turkeys and chickens to local parishes, ensuring that those in need could enjoy a traditional Thanksgiving meal.
The distribution, which took place at the Msgr. Joseph Pfeiffer Resource Center in Howard Beach is part of Catholic Charities’ ongoing mission to support vulnerable communities and address food insecurity.
The center, located at 155-55 Cross Bay Blvd., provides a wide range of services to individuals and families in need, including food assistance, community outreach, and social services. Named after the late Msgr. Joseph Pfeiffer, a beloved figure in the local community, the resource center has become a vital hub for those facing financial hardship and food insecurity. Its role in the Thanksgiving Turkey Distribution is a reflection of its broader mission to provide ongoing support to vulnerable populations across Queens and beyond.
The Turkey Distribution involved 35 parishes across the diocese, with each parish receiving between 50 and 100 turkeys to distribute to families through parish food pantries. In addition to turkeys, Catholic Charities also provided holiday staples such as stuffing and vegetables, helping to ensure that families had all the ingredients for a complete meal.
In addition to Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens and Al and Maria Cantanese, who have continued their ten-year tradition of donating turkeys in honor of their parents, over 2,100 turkeys were generously contributed by organizations such as EJ Electric, the NYC District Council of Carpenters, ACE Endico, All-Boro Inc., Alba Construction, Uplift New York Hispanic Federation, Univision Nueva York Contigo, and Catholic Charities of New York.
The Thanksgiving Turkey Distribution is one of many programs Catholic Charities organizes throughout the year to address hunger and hardship. For more information on upcoming initiatives, visit www.ccbq.org.
