A Queens woman was arrested following a weekend collision that left a motorcyclist dead on the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway (BQE).
Police arrested 44-year-old Laura Cordova of Chestnut Hill Avenue in Richmond Hill for driving without a license and using a vehicle without ignition interlock, a device often required in vehicles for drivers who have previously been convicted of driving under the influence (DUI).
The incident occurred on the BQE at Tillary Street just before 10 p.m. on May 10. Per the investigation, police determined that 27-year-old Sean Johnson of Mount Sinai, NY, was operating a 2024 Suzuki motorcycle heading westbound on the vehicle-heavy roadway when he struck Cordova’s 2015 Honda Accord, which was stopped in traffic.
Officers from the 88th Precinct, upon getting a 911 call about the incident, arrived at the scene and found Johnson in critical condition.
EMS rushed him to Brooklyn Hospital Center where he was pronounced dead.
Although Cordova was required to have an ignition interlock, she was not charged with DUI, police sources said.
Meanwhile, the investigation remains ongoing by the NYPD’s Highway Collision Investigation Squad.
