A driver exiting the Ed Koch Queensboro Bridge struck and killed a 93-year-old pedestrian at about 5:25 a.m. on May 8, police reported on Wednesday.

Officers from the 108th Precinct responded to the motor vehicle accident, where they found Long Island City-resident Lillian Muller lying on the roadway with head trauma. EMT responders pronounced her dead on the scene.

The driver of Hyundai Elantra struck Muller, who was in the crosswalk at the time of the incident, while traveling east on Queens Plaza South Inner Roadway. The 40-year-old driver waited at the scene.

NYPD is investigating the incident.

The bridge’s exit ramp is a familiar site for fatal vehicle accidents. The Department of Transportation made numerous safety improvements to the bridge after string of pedestrians collisions from 2011-2013.

The agency installed three signs warning drivers to go 20 miles per hour, yellow and white reflectors, rumble strips and closed a risky Queensboro Bridge traffic lane that became a site for speeding at night when the lane was underused.

“This is another disturbing traffic fatality involving a pedestrian. I offer my condolences to Ms. Mueller’s loved ones. This is the latest preventable traffic crash where innocent lives were lost. I have already contacted the NYPD seeking further information,” Senate Deputy Leader Michael Gianaris said in a statement.
