A Jamaica man faces murder charges for allegedly knifing his wife to death during an domestic assault at their home on Monday afternoon.

Authorities say that at 1:55 p.m. on May 20, officers from the 103rd Precinct responded to a 911 call regarding an assault in progress at a residence on Atari Lane off 93rd Avenue.

Upon their arrival, police found 44-year-old Isabel Galeano with multiple stab wounds to her torso and a laceration in her hand.

Paramedics rushed Galeano to Jamaica Hospital in critical condition. She ultimately died of her injuries at 7:46 a.m. on Tuesday morning.

Charges say that while Galeano was cooking, her husband, 56-year-old Isidro Pacheco, allegedly approached her and allegedly reached for a knife and stabbed her multiple times in the torso. Pacheco then allegedly bludgeoned her with a nearby wooden cutting board.

Galeano managed to escape and collapsed at a neighbor’s residence.

Later that day, Pacheco allegedly turned himself in to custody in the 103rd Precinct with blood-stained clothing.

He was charged with murder and criminal possession of a weapon and is due to return to court on June 4. If convicted, Pacheco faces up to 25 years to life in prison.

“This crime is a tragic case of the most extreme outcome of domestic violence,” said acting District Attorney John M. Ryan. “The defendant in this case is alleged to have brutalized his wife, killing her inside of the home they shared. The defendant now faces spending the rest of his life behind bars.”
