Driving Miss Daisy at Theatre Box of Floral Park
Theatre Box of Floral Park is back and running at full speed this summer as we proudly present Alfred Uhry’s Pulitzer Prize-winning play “Driving Miss Daisy” from Friday, July 29 to Sunday, July 31 and from Thursday, Aug. 4 to Saturday, Aug. 6 at United Methodist Church, 35 Verbena Ave.
This beloved tale that was also made into an Oscar-winning motion picture examines what happens when Daisy Werthan, a Jewish widow living in Atlanta who is no longer able to drive, is forced by her concerned son, Boolie, to hire a Black woman named Hoke to chauffeur her. As the play unfolds over 25 years, the initial differences between both women evolves into a solid friendship through which they deal with issues ranging from illiteracy, a temple bombing and the Civil Rights movement. Prepare to laugh, be moved and even shed a few tears.
For vaccinated audience members, masks are optional; for those who are not vaccinated, masks are highly recommended.
Enjoy the show in air-conditioned comfort. Show times are 8 p.m. July 29 and 30 and Aug. 4-6 and 2 p.m. on July 31.
