Triangle named for Glen Oaks Marine

Council Member David Weprin joins friends, neighbors and family of Marine Lance Corporal Michael V. Postal, to rename the triangle located at Union Turnpike and 259th Street, not far from where the Glen Oaks resident grew up, in his honor.
The street re-naming, which was signed into law on June 14, 2007, occurred immediately following the 11:45 a.m. Mass at Our Lady of Snows Roman Catholic Church, on Sunday July 22.
The 21-year-old Postal was killed in action by an improvised explosive device during combat operations in Al Anbar province, Iraq on May 7, 2005.
He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 8th Regiment, 2nd Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, which is based at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.
Following his death, members of his unit honored Postal by naming their company's operating post &#8220Camp Postal.”
In an earlier memorial, Lance Corporal Daniel J. Shaw, a member of Postal's unit said, &#8220There were many tears shed that day by all of us. There are still many tears shed every time I think of him. He was one of the best men I will ever know.”
