Police seek driver in crash killing Maspeth bar owner

Police are seeking the public’s help in finding the driver of a car that was involved in an accident that took the life of a Maspeth bar owner.

The accident occurred on at approximately 6:45 a.m. Saturday, October 15, when a 2002 Sebring traveling in the wrong direction on the Long Island Expressway service road at 58th Road struck a livery cab killing the passenger, George Gibbons.

The driver, Peter Rodriguez, 36, fled the scene following the crash.

Gibbons who owned Gibbons’ Home on 69th Street in Maspeth was pronounced dead on arrival at Elmhurst Hospital.

The Sebring’s passenger, Andre McKanney, 44, of Brooklyn was also taken to Elmhurst Hospital in stable condition. McKanney was arrested and charged with marijuana possession.
