By Rich Bockmann

Students from Benjamin Cardozo High School in Bayside beat out some stiff competition Saturday to take second place in the regional round of the New York State Science Olympiad competition.

A group of 15 students edged out teams from schools such the Bronx High School of Science, Townsend Harris High School, Archbishop Molloy High School and the Dalton School. They join four others from the metropolitan region, including Stuyvesant High School, to be invited to compete in the state finals in Buffalo, March 30 and 31.

“We’re very proud of them and we wish them good luck at states. They worked very hard,” said Assistant Principal of Science Omar Sharafeddin.

The top two teams to be selected from the state finals round will go on to compete in the national Science Olympiad tournament.
