Parks employee dead after fight with coworker at Flushing Meadows

One Parks worker is dead and another is in custody after the two got into an argument, police said.

Ezra Black, 31, was fatally stabbed once in the chest around 4 p.m. in Flushing Meadows-Corona Park on Tuesday, September 4, after he got into a dispute with fellow Parks staffer Robert Swann.

Police responded to the site, just off Fowler Avenue, and Black was transported to New York Hospital Queens where he was pronounced dead.

Swann, 51, was booked for murder and criminal possession of a weapon, police said.

The two had been arguing outside of a maintenance facility behind the Al Oerter Recreation Center, officials said. Just a few hours before, Mayor Michael Bloomberg held a press conference at the center to discuss his proposed soda ban.

It could not be confirmed with the Parks Department what the two did at the park, but several news outlets have reported the two were seasonal maintenance workers who had been arguing all day.
