A Massapequa, Long Island man that jumped onto Citi Field after Mets pitcher Johan Santana threw the baseball team’s first no-hitter, pleaded guilty to interfering with a professional sporting event, announced Queens District Attorney Richard A. Brown.
At the June 1 game this summer, Rafael Diaz, 33, made it all the way to the pitcher’s mound where he came in physical contact with players before he was apprehended, according to the DA’s office.
Diaz, who pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor on September 13, has to pay a $1,000 fine to the City of New York , $4,000 in civil penalties to the Mets and perform 100 hours of community service.
Additionally, he is banned from Citi Field for one year.
The Mets organization has also served him with a trespass notice that indefinitely prevents him from entering any of their playing venues, said the DA’s office.
