A one-year-old girl, who was reportedly riding in the front passenger side and without a car seat, was injured in a two-vehicle accident Monday afternoon in Richmond Hill, said police.

Around 1:42 p.m., the car carrying the child was travelling eastbound on 91st Street when it collided with a vehicle that was driving north on 102nd Street.

When the two cars crashed, the air bag deployed where the baby girl was sitting and she was injured, said authorities.

She was taken to Jamaica Hospital in stable condition.

The driver of the vehicle in which the one-year-old was riding was issued a summons for not having the child in a car seat.

According to New York State law, all children under four years old must be in safety seats when riding in a vehicle, and in child restraint systems until they’re eight.

Although it’s not illegal for children to ride in a front seat that has a passenger air bag, the New York Department of Motor Vehicles warns that it is dangerous.
