The nation’s largest funeral and cemetery service provider cut a deal to buy two local funeral homes in Queens, The Courier has learned.

Frederick Funeral Home, Inc. in Flushing and Harden Funeral Home, Inc. & Francis X. Hatton in Bayside have been sold to Service Corporation International (SCI), said a spokesperson for the Houston-based conglomerate. Beney Funeral Home, Inc. in Syosset, which operated under the same leadership, has also been acquired.

“We thought that it would complement our portfolio, and we really admired the service that the associates had led,” said SCI representative Jessica McDunn.

The sale of the three funeral homes was finalized on December 14 for an undisclosed amount, McDunn said.

The company plans to keep staff from all three locations on board in order to “continue with the same tradition of exceptional service.”

Fred Passarella’s family had operated the local businesses since 1934. He did not comment on the sale.
