Nine Democrats and three Republicans will be on the ballot for mayor Tuesday. Five Democrats are competing for the office of public advocate, and two Democrats are running for city comptroller.

Mayoral candidates

Lawyer Sal Albanese, a former teacher, served in the City Council.

Bill de Blasio, the public advocate, is a former city councilman.

Neil Vincent Grimaldi is a lawyer and a former teacher.

Former MTA Chairman Joe Lhota served as deputy mayor.

John Liu, the city comptroller, served in the City Council.

Businessman George McDonald founded the DOE fund.

Christine Quinn, the City Council speaker, is a former activist.

Erick Salgado is a pastor in a Brooklyn church.

Bill Thompson served as city comptroller and Board of Education president.

Former Forest Hills resident Anthony Weiner is a former U.S. congressman.

Public Advocate candidates

Catherine Guerriero, a professor, has worked for the Archdiocese.

Councilwoman Letitia James is a former public defender.

Attorney Reshma Saujani is a former deputy public advocate.

Daniel Squadron is a state senator in Albany.

Sidique Wai is an adviser to the NYPD commissioner.

Comptroller candidates

Eliot Spitzer served as state attorney general and governor.

Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer served in the Assembly.
