A Middle Village church will play host to a fund-raiser Sunday afternoon for families whose homes were destroyed or damaged in a five-alarm blaze earlier this week.

Community United Methodist Church, at 75-27 Metropolitan Ave., will be open to accept donations of gift cards, cash, clothing, suitcases and brand-new toiletries from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Organizers were hoping to set up suitcases with several items of clothing and basic necessities for Middle Village residents whose houses were destroyed or damaged by the fire Monday.

Four families required emergency housing after the fire, and some other residents were able to find their own places to stay, according to officials from the Red Cross.

State Sen. Joseph Addabbo (D-Howard Beach) has also been collecting supplies at his three district offices from Monday to Friday. The three locations are: 66-85 73rd Place in Middle Village, 159-53 102nd St. in Howard Beach and 88-08 Rockaway Beach Blvd. in Rockaway Beach.
