Five candidates are competing in the election for the City Council District 22 seat, which represents Astoria, Long Island City and Jackson Heights.

Costa Costantinides

Costa Constantinides, the legislative director for Councilman James Gennaro, proposes a bill to clean streets via trash pickup and graffiti removal. He supports parental involvement in schools and backs the expansion of Mt. Sinai Hospital.

Danielle de Stefano

Conservative candidate Danielle de Stefano is a lifelong Astoria resident. She wants to cut taxes on homeowners, change standardized testing in our schools and promote high school work-study programs for the public servants of tomorrow.

Jerry Kann

Populist candidate Jerry Kann is running for a City Council seat for the fifth time. He wants to abolish stop and frisk, add representatives for tenants to the Rent Guidelines Board and raise taxes on people making over $500,000 a year.

Daniel Peterson

Republican candidate David Peterson calls himself a constitutional conservative. He believes government power should be at the local level, that quality of life starts with public safety and backs more vocational training in high school.

Lynne Serpe

Green Party candidate Lynne Serpe supports participatory budgeting to let taxpayers decide which programs get funding. The energy efficiency expert wants to reduce waste, promote a green economy and bring clean-tech businesses to Astoria.
