City Councilman Donovan Richards (D-Laurelton) won his first full term in City Hall in Tuesday’s election.
Richards — who won a special election by a razor-thin margin in February for the southeast Queens District 31seat vacated by his mentor, state Sen. James Sanders (D-Jamaica) — pulled in 91.8 percent of Tuesday’s vote with 75 percent of precincts reporting, according to preliminary numbers from the Associated Press.
He was up against Republican Scherie Murray, and Ricardo Brown, a Democrat who ran on the Jobs & Education Party line.
Murray, a community activist who made a failed bid against Richards’ predecessor in 2009, pulled in 5.7 percent of Tuesday’s vote.
Brown, president of an accounting and consulting firm, and Richards were separated by about 16 percentage points in September’s Democratic Party primary. This time around Brown earned 2.5 percent of the vote.
The district covers Laurelton, Rosedale, Far Rockaway and parts of Springfield Gardens.
