A 73-year-old Richmond Hill woman was killed Thursday after she fell while crossing Jamaica Avenue near 131st Street and was struck by a 2004 Nissan Altima, police said.

The New York Police Department said Bladimer Alvarez Sorto, 27, allegedly hit Kaneez Hussein around 6:32 a.m. and drove off. Police said witnesses stopped him a few blocks later and told Alvarez Sorto he had struck a person. At that point, officers said Alvarez Sorto, who did not have a valid driver’s license, returned to the intersection of Jamaica Avenue and 131st Street.

Hussein was rushed to Jamaica Hospital in critical condition, where police said she was pronounced dead.

Officers later found and arrested Alvarez Sorto and charged him with leaving the scene of an accident and unlicensed operator, the NYPD said.

Hussein’s relatives described her as a religious Muslim woman, and said she would be buried Friday.

Her grandson said she was very loving.
