Sliwa-Katz case sealed

By Sarina Trangle

Guardian Angel Curtis Sliwa and Mary Sliwa have been divorced for two years, but a Manhattan judge moved a civil lawsuit detailing the Guardian Angel’s alleged extramarital affair with Borough President Melinda Katz into the court’s matrimonial division and out of public records last week.

Paul Siegert, an attorney representing Mary Sliwa, said he planned to appeal the judge’s move and an order sealing off court documents from the public.

“It’s very unusual what’s happening,” Siegert said, noting that he considered the proceedings a fraud case because it sought to recover some of the money Curtis Sliwa paid his girlfriend Katz in child support. “It has nothing to do with divorce. The divorce ended two years ago.”

David Bookstaver, a spokesman for the court system, said the case belonged in the matrimonial part of court.

“This is clearly a matter that stems out of a matrimonial action,” he said.

Katz’s attorney did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
