Police are investigating the death of a 14-month-old Springfield Gardens girl after her father picked the child up from day care and found her unresponsive when he arrived home Friday evening.

Officers were called to the 228th Street residence of the toddler, Daniella Okoye, at about 6:30 p.m. and discovered her unconscious, cops said. She was taken to Franklin General Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Daniella’s father told authorities that when he picked his daughter up from day care she was already in her car seat and she appeared to be asleep, a police source said. When he arrived home and she wasn’t responsive, he immediately called 9-1-1.

The cause of death has yet to be determined.
