Woman tried bringing drugs through JFK: CBP

JAMAICA — A woman was arrested at John F. Kennedy International Airport for allegedly trying to smuggle cocaine into the United States, according to authorities.

The suspect, arriving from a flight from the Dominican Republic, was carrying the drug in her laptop computer bag, said the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

She was busted Sept. 9 when U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers noticed the computer bag “was unusually heavy.” The officers, said a CBP representative, found the substance that tested positive for cocaine.

According to authorities, the cocaine seized was about 3.3 pounds with a street value of more than $55,000.

“This latest seizure demonstrates the vigilance of our CBP officers, and their excellence in detecting those who would try to smuggle these illegal substances,” said Robert Perez, director of field operations in New York.
