One-year leases for Queens’ stabilized apts frozen

By TimesLedger Staff

In a boon for Queens’ 135,000 rent-stabilized tenants, the city Rent Guidelines Board voted Monday to freeze rents for one-year leases. It was the first time in 46 years that a freeze had been approved for the 1 million rent-regulated apartments in the five boroughs.

For leases starting in October, the rent will be frozen for tenants who renew their leases for one year, while those choosing a two-year renewal will be subject to an increase of 2 percent.
