Fair pensions for the city’s bravest

By John Amato

The recent agreement that was reached between the Uniformed Firefighters Association and the city with regard to disability pensions is a fair and just one. This will now ensure that all firefighters, regardless of how many years of service they have rendered, will be covered by disability benefits for as long as necessary to help them and their families.

This is what all firefighters deserve—peace of mind, knowing that they and their families will be taken care of should they be injured in the line of duty. UFA president Steven Cassidy works very hard for his members and he, along with Fire Commissioner Nigro and Mayor DeBlasio, need to be commended for all of their collaborative hard work which made this deal possible for our brave and dedicated firefighters.

Now, it is time for the police officers of our city to receive a similar contract. They and our firefighters are the ones who risk their lives each and every day to keep our city safe.
