“Dog Park,” a multiplayer virtual game that allows you to wrestle, run and play with other dogs, will be available to play for free at the Museum of the Moving Image on Friday.

The four-player game —which has not yet been released— was created by Kevin Cancienne for New York University’s No Quarter exhibition, which commissions new multiplayer games.

In Dog Park, players can choose which breeds to transform into and are then encouraged to play in an enclosed dog park. Players are awarded points when they bark, jump, run or hump other dogs and those who have the most fun are crowned the winner.

Museum patrons can play a preview of the game from 4 to 7 p.m.

After the free game session Cancienne will discuss the video game with Colleen Macklin, an Associate Professor in Design and Technology at Parsons School of Design and Co-Director of PETLab (Prototyping Education and Technology Lab), and take questions.

“Dog Park’s deceptively simple premise—that barking, jumping, running, and humping earn you points—becomes surprisingly compelling when you’re racing against the clock with your friends,” said Jason Eppink, curator of digital media.

This event is part of the series “Well Played @ Moving Image,” which features a single new game at each session.  Other games that have been highlighter in the past months include “Sunburn!,” “Slam City Oracles,” “Gravitation,” and “The Blackwell Series.”

“The Well Played @ Moving Image series welcomes a wide-ranging audience, from casual gamers to game makers, to investigate the meaning of games and the value of play,” added Eppink, who organizes the events.

The Museum of the Moving Image is located at 36-01 35 Ave.
