Shake Shack coming to Forest Hills

By Gabriel Rom

Forest Hills is on a culinary tear.

Shake Shack, the critically acclaimed roadside burger stand with locations throughout the United States and internationally, announced it will open a new location in 2016 at 71-26 Austin St.

This is the second stand-alone Shake Shack slated to open next year in Queens. The company announced in June that a location would be coming to Queens Center in Elmhurst.

“It feels good to continue to deepen our footprint in our hometown of NYC,” a spokeswoman for Shake Shack said in an e-mail.

In September, a representative of the landlord at Shake Shack’s new location said a “major retailer” would replace Strawberry, a woman’s clothing store which closed earlier this year when its lease expired, after roughly two decades on Austin Street.

Shake Shack has also opened sites in Kennedy Airport and Citi Field.

The establishment is known for its 100 percent all-natural, antibiotic-free Angus beef burgers, crinkle-cut fries and milkshakes.

Shake Shack will join a growing number of burger-centric restaurants in Forest Hills, which includes Twist and Smash’d, Cheeburger Cheeburger and Bareburger.
