A 17-year-old Corona boy was struck and killed by a car Tuesday night as he was returning from a funeral, according to reports.

Police responded to a 911 call of a pedestrian hit at the intersection of Junction Boulevard and Northern Boulevard at about 10:50 p.m. Jaremello Ovidio, of 95th Street in Corona, was attempting to cross the street when the vehicle, a black Toyota Camry traveling westbound on Northern Boulevard, hit Ovidio and drove off, police said. Ovidio was taken to Elmhurst Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The hit-and-run is under investigation by the NYPD Collision Investigation Squad.

The intersection was the scene of another fatality in 2013 that involved a drunk driver and ended in the death of 3-year-old Olvin Jahir Figueroa. Further down Northern Boulevard in Woodside that same year, 8-year-old Noshat Nahian was killed crossing the busy street on the way to his school.

Last year, Congressman Joe Crowley proposed new legislation that would require states to focus federal legislation in areas where there have been an increase in pedestrian fatalities or injuries. He made the announcement at the spot where 11-year-old Miguel Torres was fatally struck in 2012, as he was crossing Northern Boulevard to get to school.
