The boyfriend of Joceline Romo, the city's first murder victim of 2016, is in police custody at Jamaica Hospital, police said.

The boyfriend of Woodhaven resident Joceline Romo, the city’s first murder victim of 2016, is currently in police custody, authorities reported.

According to police, Romo’s boyfriend, whose name has not been released, is undergoing psychiatric evaluation at Jamaica Hospital.

Romo was found unconscious, lying face down on her bed inside of her home on 86th Street near 91st Avenue in Woodhaven late on New Year’s Day. Reports indicated that Romo had blunt force trauma to her head and neck compression injuries.

Following an autopsy, police classified the case as a homicide — the first of the year. The investigation is ongoing.
