If you’re in the market for a new home this spring, you won’t want to miss the Long Island and Queens Open House Weekend sponsored by the Long Island Board of Realtors (LIBOR) on April 9 and 10.

Thousands of houses on the market across Queens, Nassau and Suffolk counties will be open the public that weekend to give buyers the opportunity to walk through and check out properties for themselves. It is considered as the largest Realtor event in the area.

Realtors will be on hand at each location to offer their expert insight into the local housing market and answer questions regarding the home buying and selling process.

Spring is regarded as the ideal time to buy or sell a home, and this year, the conditions are ideal. The national unemployment rate is at a 10-year low; home sales rose in January to its highest annual rate in six months; and low inventory resulted in the fastest increase in prices since last April. Even with a price increase, mortgages have become more affordable due to continued low interest rates.

“This event truly marks the end of winter and the beginning of spring for real estate sales in all of our communities,” said LIBOR President Mary Alice Ruppert. “Buyers and sellers agree this event is a wonderful opportunity to promote and engage for home sales and purchases across Long Island and Queens. Our Realtor members devote a great deal of energy and promotion to this weekend-long event to facilitate bringing potential buyers and sellers together.”

LIBOR is also offering greater incentive for home buyers to participate in the Open House Weekend by offering a sweepstakes in which three lucky attendees will each receive a $1,000 prize. No purchase is necessary to enter.
