By Madina Toure

An elderly Asian man was hit by a car in front of the New York Mart supermarket in downtown Flushing Friday afternoon.

At about 12:35 p.m., three police officers were seen tending to an older man lying in the street next to the car, a dark green Toyota Corolla with an Indiana license plate, on Bowne Street and Roosevelt Avenue in front of the supermarket at 142-41 Roosevelt Ave. as a huge crowd of onlookers looked on.

He was alive as of Friday afternoon.

EMS workers from Flushing Hospital Medical Center arrived and put the man on a stretcher and into the ambulance truck.

An elderly Asian woman with a carry-on suitcase was tending the victim. It was unclear if she was his wife, a friend or a relative. She got into the ambulance truck with the victim.

The driver, who remained on the scene, was seen speaking with police officers, who appeared to be asking him questions.
