By Patrick Donachie

A 18-year-old man died after he collided with a city Parks Department truck Sunday afternoon while riding his skateboard, according to police. The crash happened at the intersection of Forest Parkway and Park Lane South in Woodhaven, along the southern end of Forest Park.

At about 1:33 p.m., police from the 102nd Precinct responded to a 911 call about an accident at the intersection and found the man lying in the road with traumatic injuries. Emergency services transported him to Jamaica Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Upon further investigation, police determined that the man had collided with a 2006 Ford truck belonging to the Parks Department, which had been traveling westbound on Park Lane South when the collision occurred. The young man had been riding south on Forest Parkway on his skateboard before the accident.

Police said the 27-year-old driver of the truck remained at the scene of the accident. The name of the victim was being withheld pending family notification.
