What could be better than spending a summer night outdoors with beer in hand, watching an amazing film? Doing it for free.

The owners of Ridgewood’s outdoor bar space, Nowadays, are giving their customers the chance to do just that this summer, as they have announced the full list of movies they will be screening during their free Monday night film series.

The series will be put on in conjunction with Maysles Cinema, the Harlem-based film house started by the late Albert Maysles in 2008. Maysles Cinema has finalized the list of films to be screened at Nowadays, which includes films by filmmaking legends such as Les Blank, Julie Taymor, Eddie Aikau, Werner Herzog, Bobbito Garcia, Joshua Oppenheimer and Christopher Guest.

Nowadays will be hosting 10 weekly films starting next Monday, June 20, and the series will run through Aug. 29.

“Monday’s film, just like all the others we’ll screen this summer, will be absolutely free, and it will start just after sundown,” Justin Carter of Nowadays said in a statement. “We really hope you’ll join us. It’s [going to] be so nice to sit under the stars and watch a movie together.”

The first film set to be screened is Albert and David Maysles’ “Muhammad and Larry.”

The Maysles brother captured the lead up to and action of the 1980 fight between Muhammad Ali and his former sparring partner and friend, Larry Holmes, but the footage remained unused until 2009.

Nowadays confirmed that the film’s producer, Laura Coxson, will be on hand to introduce the film, and possibly take questions after it screens.
