Getting to the 2016 U.S. Open just got a little bit easier.

The MTA announced that it will be providing extra Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) stops at the Mets-Willets Point Station on the Port Washington Branch beginning with the start of U.S. Open qualifying rounds on Tuesday, Aug. 23 through the final championship rounds on Sunday, Sept. 11.

The annual tennis tournament will be held in the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center at Flushing Meadows-Corona Park.

According to the Transit Authority, Port Washington Branch trains will stop at Mets-Willets Point every 30 minutes during the qualifying rounds — scheduled for Aug. 23 to 26 — Arthur Ashe Kids’ Day on Saturday, Aug. 27, and for the U.S. Open tournament, which runs from Aug. 29 through Sept. 11.

Customers traveling from branches other than the Port Washington Branch, are advised to take the LIRR to Woodside and transfer to a Port Washington-bound train and get off at Mets-Willets Point, the MTA said. Customers transferring at Woodside should alert the conductor about their travel plans. Customers must hold onto their LIRR tickets and have them ready for presentation and collection upon exiting the train at Mets-Willets Point.

The MTA urges customers to purchase their tickets at a ticket machine or staffed ticket window before boarding the train to avoid the higher onboard ticket fare. Or, customers can download the MTA’s new eTix app for ticket purchases.

For those attending matches on the weekends only and traveling within city limits — specifically Queens and Manhattan — a specially priced CityTicket is available for same-day use and is priced at $4.25 each way.

Customers can find all LIRR service details on the web here. Alternatively, they can pick up a copy of the special timetable at LIRR terminals and stations. Help is also available from the LIRR’s Customer Service Center by calling 511, the New York State Travel Information Telephone Line, and when prompted say: “Long Island Rail Road.”
