A collision on the Cross Island Parkway came to a fatal end for one motorcyclist last Friday night in Bayside.

Bronx resident Michael Ramnath, 26, was operating a Suzuki motorcycle headed northbound on the parkway between the Northern Boulevard exit and the Bayside Marina just before 10 p.m. on Sept. 2 when he attempted to change lanes and clipped the back of a gold BMW.

After striking the BMW, the motorcyclist veered to the right, struck the guardrail, and was ejected off the vehicle.

Officers from the 111th Precinct and EMS arrived on the scene. They discovered the man with severe body trauma and transported him to Flushing Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, police said.

The BMW driver remained on the scene. He has not been charged with any crime.

The investigation by the NYPD Collision Investigation Squad is ongoing.

Many bikers that I have come across on various highways and parkways ride in between cars that are slowing or stopped in traffic, change lanes at high rates of speed, and basically wreak havoc on the roads. As much as I hate to hear of someone dying as a result of their use of a motorcycle, I can only imagine how traumatized The owner of the vehicle the cycle struck must be.
