Repairs are underway for a water main that broke in Corona early on Thursday morning that left hundreds of residents without water service.

The 12-inch main ruptured just before 1 a.m. below 99th Street and 60th Avenue.

Department of Environmental Protection crews have been working on fixing the broken main since early this morning. According to City Councilwoman Julissa Ferreras-Copeland, homes in the area will likely not have water for the duration of the repairs. Additionally, 60th Avenue will be closed between 99th Street and Calloway Street.

It is unclear how long it will take to finish the repairs, but the crews are working to have the repairs completed as soon as possible; water service may be restored by this afternoon.

Anyone who has suffered damages to their personal property due to the water main break may be eligible for a reimbursement from the City of New York and should call Ferreras-Copeland’s office at 718-651-1917 for assistance.
