The head of a nonprofit youth-support organization with programs in Jamaica and Mott Haven is leaving the organization.

Opportunities for a Better Tomorrow announced that chief executive officer Randy Peers is ending his 11-year tenure at the head of the organization to become the first CEO for the Greater Reading Chamber and Economic Development Corporation in Berks County, Pa. He will be succeeded by interim CEO Dr. Liliana Polo-McKenna.

Better Tomorrow started in Brooklyn, but expanded into Queens and the Bronx during Peers’ time at the helm. He worked with the YMCA to form Y Roads Center, which is located at YMCAs in Mott Haven and in Jamaica.

“There can be no more rewarding experience than serving the young adults of our community and empowering them through education and employment,” Peers said about his time as CEO.

The Y Roads Center works to help young people become self-sufficient and financially secure through job training, education, and workforce experience. Services offered include high school equivalency prep classes, along with work-skills training, and job-placement assistance.

Better Tomorrow was founded in 1983 and works to help young men and women ages 17–24 complete their education, attain job skills and find quality employment. The organization runs six sites throughout the city, serving more than 4,500 people each year.
