Girls can soon pick up a beautiful dress for their prom donated by residents of Glendale, Middle Village, and other neighborhoods across the city, as part of Joan England’s 4th Annual PROMises/Moves & Motions Prom Dress Drive.

As of Tuesday, March 21, the dress drive has collected 282 dresses, and that number continues to rise each day.

“Our goal is collect 500 dresses. We are grateful once again, to everyone who has donated dresses to us,” said Christine Nelson, daughter of Joan England, and organizer of the prom dress drive. “When a girl receives this free dress of her choice, all we ask is that they pay it forward; do something nice for someone else. The look on their faces when they try on a dress and look like a princess, it’s just priceless.”

The prom dress drive was England’s idea, but she died shortly before the first annual drive ended. Now, Nelson carries on her mother’s dream to provide girls with beautiful prom dresses, who may not be able to afford one otherwise.

On Saturday, April 22, girls who will be attending their proms are invited to pick one free dress each at Williamsburg Preparatory High School in the Van Arsdale Campus, located at 257 N. Sixth St., Brooklyn, from noon to 4 p.m.

However, donations of clean, gently used gowns, dresses, shoes and accessories will still be accepted until Saturday, April 8, giving more teens the chance to find their perfect dress.

Drop off locations continue to be the Moves & Motions School of Dance in Glendale located at 70-20 88th St., Middle Village located at 74-02 Eliot Ave., and Manhasset, located at 47 Manhasset Ave. Each location is accepting donations on Tuesdays through Thursdays from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m., and on Saturdays from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
