A Jamaica man who was convicted of sexually assaulting a 7-year-old girl repeatedly over a three-year period was sentenced to prison time, prosecutors announced Tuesday.

Shaking Jones, 36, was convicted last month of predatory sexual assault against a child, first-degree course of sexual conduct against a child and endangering the welfare of a child. He was sentenced to 18 years to life in prison.

According to trial testimony, Jones was dating the 7-year-old girl’s mother when he started to regularly and repeatedly sexually assaulted his young victim, which began on Aug. 1, 2012. The abuse ended in July 2015 when the victim disclosed to an adult cousin what was occurring.

District Attorney Brown said, “The facts in this case chronicle a frightening ordeal of sexual violence that went on for years. By using his friendship with the victim’s mother, the defendant took advantage of an innocent child for his own sexual gratification. The lengthy sentence imposed today by the court is more than deserving.”
