Flushing‘s information booth is slated to get a makeover, and a local organization is asking for the public’s input on its new look.

The Flushing Business Improvement District (BID) is asking residents to share their vision for the neighborhood’s information booth, located at the corner of Main Street and Kissena Boulevard.

The structure was originally built as a police booth but was re-purposed into an information booth in 2016. With over 100,000 pedestrians passing through Main Street each day, the hub is used as a resource to introduce tourists to the area, commuters to transportation updates, residents to local events and programs, and businesses to consumers.

In partnership with the city’s Small Business Services (SBS), the BID is offering a $1,000 prize to the person who submits the winning design. The design should be “landmark-worthy, realizable and represent the energy of downtown Flushing,” according to the organization.

The Flushing BID is looking for a vision including accommodations for a digital community event board and transit update board, free Wi-Fi and a universal charging station. The design must be feasible and fit in with the character of the surrounding neighborhood.

Proposals may be submitted online to priscillayu[at]flushingbid.com or by mail to 135-20 39th Avenue Fl. 6, Flushing, NY 11354.

Based on the winning submission, a final blueprint for the project is slated to be completed in June 2018. Visit the Flushing BID website for more information.
