Midle Village residents experienced a brief power outage due to equipment malfunctions.

Thousands of Middle Village residents were left in the dark on Tuesday when a brief power outage struck the area due to an equipment malfunction.

According to a spokesman for ConEdison, a total of 2,776 customers lost power at 1:03 p.m. thanks to a “defective clamp on the overhead wiring.” The spokesman added that during repairs power had to be cut off for an additional 2,005 customers for a total of one minute. All power was restored to the area by 1:43 p.m., the spokesman said.

The outage took place within the area bordered by Juniper Boulevard South, 75th Place, Metropolitan Avenue and 69th Place, another spokesman said.

When QNS spoke to Community Board 5 District Manager Gary Giordano, a resident of Middle Village, he said that he was driving on Juniper Valley Road when the outage took place. As he drove through the intersections at Pleasantview Street, 71st Street, 70th Street and 69th Place, all the traffic signals were out, Giordano said.
