Detectives are investigating what caused a deadly one-car crash in Forest Hills early on Saturday morning.

Officers from the 112th Precinct and EMS units responded to a 911 call at 12:47 a.m. on Feb. 17 about the crash in front of the Stop & Shop Supermarket located at 89-89 Union Tpke.

Based on a preliminary investigation, police determined that a 21-year-old man behind the wheel of a 2013 BMW traveling eastbound on Union Turnpike somehow lost control of his vehicle. The BMW veered off the road, crashed into one of the supermarket’s loading bays and burst into flames, the New York Daily News reported.

Responding officers found the driver unconscious and unresponsive. Paramedics rushed him to Jamaica Hospital, where he was pronounced dead; his identity was withheld pending family notification.
