Long Island City condos feature pop-art murals, heated floors and vented kitchens

The new 14-story condo building at 42-83 Hunter Street, Canvas, is difficult to miss — it’s got a pop-art mural painted on its exterior, 50 feet high, that reminds one of Lichtenstein, if he had tagged buildings in Long Island City.

Modern Spaces agents said the mural is one of the reasons buyers — from Long Island City, Hoboken, Manhattan, and all parts of Brooklyn — have been interested in homes at Canvas. The building is 60 percent sold.

“They are loving the mural and the urban artist vibe of the building,” says Janette James, new development coordinator at Modern Spaces, adding that the hallways inside have murals too, all by mixed media artist Jojo Anavim.

But residents are also responding to the vented kitchens, radiant heated floors in the bathroom, and the privacy (there are only two units on each floor).

The building features mostly one-bedroom units, including a one-bedroom convertible duplex on the ground floor with a backyard.

The penthouse, unique to the building, has a keyed elevator that leads to a foyer, three bedrooms, 2.5 baths and views that include the iconic sign for Silvercup Studios.

Each unit features wood flooring and closets outfitted by California Closets. Kitchens include wood cabinetry, Caesarstone countertops, Samsung refrigerators, and Bosch gas ranges and dishwashers. In the bathroom, there’s porcelain tile; Kohler toilets, sinks, bathtubs and shower fixtures; and those radiant heated floors.

Amenities include a virtual doorman, a basement laundry room, bike storage, and a fitness center on the first floor. A parking garage is one block away.

In Court Square, foodies will be satisfied with the local delicacies, with Michelin-rated restaurants Casa Enrique and M. Wells Steakhouse nearby. Artisanal coffee and cocktails can be found at Etto Espresso Bar and Dutch Kills, respectively.

Of course, being in LIC means you’re never far from the N/W/R, 7, E and M subway lines, as well as the G.

Homes with one- to three-bedrooms start at $710,000. There’s a 421-a tax abatement. All sales and marketing are being handled by Modern Spaces, and occupancy begins in late April.
