Get ready for five days of deep-fried Oreos, Twinkies, and peanut butter cups. Corn dogs, too!

The Old Fashioned Carnival will fill Astoria Park’s parking lot with an electrifying annual summer ritual from Wednesday, June 6, through Sunday, June 10.

Attendees can expect more than 20 rides, live entertainment, games, crafts, food, and some of NYC’s most spectacular sunsets behind the Upper Manhattan skyline.

The Sea Dragon (bottom, middle), a faux ship with a sea dragon cockpit and overhanging pirate image, will swing back and forth. Himalaya will take customers on an increasingly faster up-and-down merry-go-round modeled after a toboggan ride through the Alps. And Starship will spin people around while using centrifugal force to make them float.

Other options will include a Ferris Wheel; Rockstar, a platform ride with two-tiered, stadium style seating that goes up and down in circular fashion; and The Zipper, which features a long, rotating oval boom with a cable that pulls around as many as 12 cars.

Those with weaker stomachs will be able to explore two fun houses. One has a Mardi Gras theme; the other evokes Planet Rock-and-Roll. There will also be a super slide and several organized activities for the kindergarten set.

In addition to deep-fried treats, typical carnival food will be available. Corn-on-the-cob will pair with Philly cheese steaks, Italian sausages, gyros, ice cream, cotton candy, snow cones, and funnel cakes. And of course, a lemon-shaped stand will sell freshly squeezed lemonade.

The carnival, which is organized by the Central Astoria Local Development Corporation and Dreamland Amusements, will operate as per the following schedule: June 6 and June 7 from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m.; June 8 from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m.; June 9 from noon to midnight; and June 10 from noon to 11 p.m.

Entry is free, but most activities have price tags. Click here for coupons. The entrance to Astoria Park’s parking lot is in the vicinity of 19th Street and Hoyt Avenue North.
