Police are searching for two men who attempted a burglary in Flushing this April

Updated 6/14, 11:30 a.m.

Authorities continue to search for two suspects who tried breaking into a Flushing home in broad daylight this spring.

On April 19 at around 11:40 a.m., an unidentified suspect dressed in construction attire rang the doorbell of a home in the Auburndale section of the neighborhood at 189th Street and Station Road, according to law enforcement sources. The suspect and a second perpetrator then walked into the backyard.

One of the would-be burglars proceeded to climb onto an awning and attempted to gain access through an upstairs window, police said. A second perpetrator then broke through a lower-level window.

Authorities said the homeowner, a 34-year-old female who was sleeping inside, yelled out, causing the perpetrators to flee the scene on foot southbound on 189th Street toward 42nd Avenue before driving away in a grey Nissan Quest minivan. No property was reported stolen.

The suspects are described by authorities as males with slim builds wearing construction attire, including boots, masks, hard hats and green and orange reflective jackets. Surveillance footage and photos of the suspects can be viewed below.

The incident was reported to the 111th Precinct. There have been no arrests and the investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information in regards to this incident is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the Crime Stoppers website or by texting their tips to 274637 (CRIMES) then enter TIP577. All calls and messages are kept confidential.
